Aston Martin breaks record for most expensive British car ever sold!

Sotheby’s listed this classic Aston Martin Sports Car as “the most correct example of what is arguably the most important Aston Martin ever produced.” And bringing in a hefty £17.5 million pounds it is hard to disagree!

The 1596 Aston Martin DBR1 comes with a rare pedigree and history, all factors contributing to this heady price tag. Driven by Sir Stirling Moss, who described it as “the most important Aston Martin ever produced”, this car had an impressive racing history including Le Mans 24 Hours. In 1959 this car was eventually made street legal in 1962. Bruce McLaren and Carroll Shelby also sat behind the wheel helping put this car at the peak of British racing history.

Aston Martin only ever made 5 Aston Martin DBR1s during 1956 and 1958 which rivalled competitors including Ferrari’s 250 GTO and Mercedes Benz’s 300 SLR!

This car was even more special because it was chassis number one; a purpose built car developed by Ted Cutting a racing design chief. With all this history and heritage we are not surprised the car reached such a high price tag at auction.
