AutoCar Features an Exclusive Review of the Next gen Porsche Boxster

Hardworking journalists from AutoCar have trekked all the way to Canada to experience the severe winter tests that Porsche put its next generation Porsche Boxster through.
The tests have to be conducted in such a remote location because the temperatures are right – a consistent minus 20 degrees Celsius. Lovely. The next gen Boxster will be available with two types of turbocharged flat four engine. The largest of the two will be in the Boxster S and produce around 355BHP. Either way, it’s a similar engine to the flat six used in the latest 911, but with two cylinders removed to make room for the turbo unit. The Boxster S will do 0-62MPH in just 5 seconds, and go on to a top speed of more than 174MPH. Exterior changes are very subtle, with new wings and a rear spoiler adding a new grown up edge to the Boxster.
Reporting from the freezing climes, AutoCar report that: “You don’t need to be in the driver’s seat to feel the power from the 2.0-litre turbocharged flat four. Performance – channelled by either the seven-speed PDK or a six-speed manual gearbox – is more than satisfying, and any loss of smoothness needn’t be a concern, with turbo lag kept to a minimum thanks to the small size of the turbocharger….Neither should you be worried that the Boxster has lost its aural appeal, because a distinct, powerful baritone sound from the rear is quite audible.” It all sounds highly promising, and given that Porsche are putting the car through its paces in such extreme conditions bodes well for its reliability and performance power.
