Has Mercedes Created the Ultimate Luxury Convertible with the S65 Cabriolet?

With Mercedes, you always know that whatever currently sits at the top of their luxury leader board won’t remain there for long. This is because they are constantly innovating and creating ever-more luxurious models, particularly under their ‘S’ range.

Take the new S65 Cabriolet, for example. Created by Mercedes-AMG, this is the soft-top version of the range topping S65. It is rear-wheel drive, and features a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine which produces 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission, this allows drivers a 0-62 mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph - or 186 mph with the AMG Driver’s Package. The exterior of the S65 looks luxurious, too. Differences you’ll notice from the S63 include a new rear bumper with quad exhaust tips, a new grille with mesh inserts, 20in multi spoke alloys and the distinctive ‘V12 Biturbo’ lettering.

The roof is comprised of multi-layered fabric, and is available in a range of colours. It can be opened in just 17 seconds – provided that you are travelling at no more than 31 MPH, that is, which might be a challenge given all the power at your disposal!   Inside, passengers benefit from the superb Burmester 3D surround sound system, which is a common feature in many of the top Mercedes models, as well as a luxurious nappa leather and wood coated interior. Should you wish to own one of these cars before another model comes and knocks it from the luxury podium, then it will cost you the best part of £200,000. The car will be lighting up dealerships from May this year.
