Meet the AMG-boosted Mercedes C Class convertible

One of the treats provided by the New York Auto Show was the unveiling of the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet – the first convertible C Class ever produced by the marque.

Due to be released later this year, the topless twin turbo V8 C63 AMG is expected to do 0-60MPH in just 4.1 seconds in the standard 469 BHP version, which is 6 seconds less than the 362 BHP V6 C43 AMG. If you go for the AMG S package, however – and why wouldn’t you? – then you’ll enjoy an extra 34 BHP and shave an extra second off that 0-60 MPH time. Another key attraction of the AMG S package is that the top speed is no longer limited to 155 MPH, but instead can roar up to 174 MPH. Of course, the cabriolet cannot compete with the standard C63 AMH coupe, as the additional weight of the folding roof mechanism and structural reinforcements mean that it’s two seconds slower.

Nevertheless, it looks like one of those cars that’s so fun to drive you don’t notice any lack of speed. Like the coupe, all the car’s considerable power is routed to the back wheels through a seven speed automatic transmission and a rear limited-slip differential. It also has a lot of styling similarities, with the same aggressive lines, low ride height and aggressive bumpers. The car will also come with three suspension settings and five transmission modes for a fully customisable experience. Final prices and the exact release date are still to be confirmed, but we’ll keep you posted.

Excellence as standard....that’s our Marque of Distinction
