In the ‘My Vehicle’ area, the driver can see whether doors, tailgate and windows are closed via a representation of their vehicle shown from 3 perspectives. The driver can also lock or unlock the vehicle here too. Information regarding the vehicle range, maintenance history and oil level can also be accessed here along with monitoring and safety functions of the car.
On Beat
Keeping up with consumer demands and technological trends, Porsche has added new functions, new services and new apps with the Cayenne. These new advancements help bring vehicle networking to a new level and are part of Porsche Connect Plus, which is standard equipment on the new SUV generation.
But what does this mean for Porsche fans? Well, for the first time, drivers will be able to access Amazon Music, Smart Home functions provided by Nest, and Radio Plus, an intelligent combination of traditional radio reception and online radio, all through Porsche Communication Management (PCM).
The new Cayenne is always online which is provided by the integrated, LTE-compatible SIM card. Also developed by Porsche is an uncomplicated smartphone app for the key Connected Car functions. Subscribers to Amazon Music can utilise one of the most popular streaming services in the Cayenne directly from the PCM. As well as the wide range of music, Amazon Music also offers an ad-free audio live coverage of German Bundesliga football, DFB Cup matches and games with participation of German teams in the two major European football competitions which will keep many drivers and passengers happy as they travel.
Users of the Smart Home devices from Nest can also stay up to date with information from their home when in the Cayenne. The service transmits information from smoke detectors and images from cameras via the Internet. Drivers and passengers can also control the temperature in the house directly from the vehicle.
The Porsche Connect App
Other innovations on the Porsche Cayenne include Radio Plus which is a service that extends the range of the user’s personal favourite station through an integrated Internet radio function so that it is practically unlimited, provided that the chosen station offers an online radio channel. Once the Cayenne leaves the range for terrestrial radio reception via FM or digital radio, the system automatically switches to online streaming which improves reception quality in areas with poor radio coverage. Porsche offers a seven-gigabyte data pack for the use of the Amazon Music streaming service, for online radio and for surfing the web using the Wifi Hotspot in the vehicle.
Online Navigation
Online navigation is enhanced with real-time traffic information which is supplied quicker and more comprehensively. Simplified search for navigation destinations is based on the central finder actioned simply by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the header of the PCM which enables destination searches with very simple search terms. The clever finder functions also allows access to a wide range of supplementary information like fuel prices, available car parks with pricing and opening times, along with customer reviews for restaurants and hotels.
Voice input of navigation destinations is just as simple, thanks to the new Voice Pilot. Porsche voice control has been enhanced once again. Thanks to online speech recognition, voice commands can be now be performed much more intuitively than before. For example, it is now possible to enter a navigation destination without address details. Navigation route calculation is achieved both online and internally in the PCM which independently decides which navigation system has calculated the optimum route, but always starts with fastest calculated result.
In addition to navigation and music control the Porsche Connect App also enables vehicle functions including air conditioning and seat heating.
Permanently Online
Porsche understands how important it is to stay on-line in a modern world and so has worked hard to ensure the Cayenne is no exception. The navigation system processes swarm data with the new Risk Radar service so that data about road conditions and traffic are anonymously captured and transmitted from vehicles with the relevant equipment. This service can send warnings about fog, skidding risks and accidents for example which can help reduce risks on the road and prevents accidents.
Destinations are easy to create before a journey, not only in the PCM, but also using the Porsche Connect App on your smartphone or via the “My Porsche” platform. The destinations are synchronised once the driver has been identified by entering their Porsche ID in the vehicle, the app and the My Porsche web portal.
